Innovating for inclusive and equitable post-secondary education

A pathway to realizing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

Project Overview

This is a collaborative, community-based partnership project led by Eviance, with three community-based organizations and three university partners. Together we are working to scale up innovative and inclusive approaches to Universal Design for Learning in post-secondary education (PSE) as an important pathway for people with disabilities to obtain decent work.

Guided by an intersectional and reflexive human rights approach, partners are exploring links between the quality of the postsecondary education (PSE) and employment of diverse young adults with disabilities. The project is using new ways of thinking about and measuring the quality of PSE and employment for students with disabilities and is pointing to how both can be improved through more effective policies and practices.

This project supports Canada’s efforts to advance SDG 4 (quality education) as a pathway to realizing SDG 8 (decent work). The project utilizes research, resource sharing, and community-building among partners and with other individuals and organizations to address gaps in knowledge about these two SDGs interact. In doing so the project advances SDG 17 (partnerships for the SDGs) to create a more inclusive and equitable Canada.

Our shared intersectional and reflexive human rights-based approach, informed by the inter-relatedness of the SDGs, enables this project to concurrently advance SDGs that focus on poverty reduction (SDG 1), the elimination of hunger (SDG 2), good health and well-being (SDG 3), gender equality and the empowerment of women (SDG 5), and reduced inequalities (SDG 10).

Eviance uses an intersectional, reflexive human rights-based approach in all our work
